Clement Stable Gearing Up

A pair of top older horses in the barn of trainer Christophe Clement were also out for work Saturday morning at Belmont Park as they ready themselves for engagements on Breeders’ Cup prep weekend on Long Island.

Exiting a third-place effort behind Honor Code in the Whitney, ‘TDN Rising Star’ Tonalist (Tapit) covered five furlongs in 1:00.80 Saturday morning over the main track, the sixth-fastest of 35 at the distance.

“Tonalist is doing great,” said Clement. “It was a nice work. He came back in good shape and he’s on course for the [GI] Jockey Club Gold Cup [Oct. 3]. His last work at Saratoga the previous week was very good as well over the Oklahoma training track, but everything is in order thus far.”

Red Vine (Candy Ride {Arg}), who was gallant in running third to Beholder (Henny Hughes) in the GI TVG Pacific Classic Aug. 22, could cut back in distance for the Kelso and drilled five panelse in 1:03.66 Saturday morning.

“He shipped back from California well,” said Clement. “He had a very easy work [Saturday] and came back in good shape.”

Hard Not to Like (Hard Spun), who dropped her nose down on the wire to take the GI Diana S. at the Spa when last seen July 25, is likely to represent the stable in the GI Flower Bowl Invitational on the same program.
